Indonesia’s rapid urbanization has significantly influenced regional development, with urban centers growing at a much faster rate than rural areas. This paper examines the economic impacts of urbanization on regional disparities, particularly the concentration of wealth, labor, and resources in major cities like Jakarta, Surabaya, and Makassar. The study investigates how urbanization exacerbates income inequality, disrupts rural livelihoods, and leads to the overburdening of infrastructure in cities. By analyzing regional economic data and urban policies, the paper assesses how urban migration, infrastructure development, and industrialization contribute to widening economic disparities between regions. Furthermore, it discusses policy responses that can mitigate the negative effects of urbanization, such as improving rural infrastructure, promoting inclusive development in peripheral areas, and fostering equitable investment. This research provides insights into how urbanization can be managed to ensure balanced regional development in Indonesia.
